Homer's epics extend their concern from the right treatment of strangers to behaviour in situations of deep involvement among rival heroes, their foes, and the overseeing gods; the tragedies of Aeschylus and Sophocles are a sublime expression of man's breakthrough into moral awareness of his situation.
However, no simple behaviours can be taught in situations of super-diversity as our next two examples also show. Figure 3 shows an extract of a video-recorded consultation in a Swiss pain clinic (translated from French) in which consent is sought for a spinal injection.
Probably the organisers felt that they were developing in us aspects of senior peer team behaviour and cooperation, looking at strategic thinking in situations of stress, and ability to deal with problems of greater and greater abstraction.

Infant behaviours in the Strange Situation Protocol coded as disorganised/disoriented include overt displays of fear; contradictory behaviours or affects occurring simultaneously or sequentially; stereotypic, asymmetric, misdirected or jerky movements; or freezing and apparent dissociation.
Surprisingly however, over half of our participants changed at least one, and commonly two, behaviours in response to the situation.
The behavioural inhibition system (or BIS-reactivity), assessed psychometrically (e.g. the BIS scale from the BIS/BAS questionnaire, [ 29]) has been shown to explain individual behaviour in situations when there is a threat of punishment [ 29].
In the reactive cluster, there was a higher probability of accepting violent behaviour in situations when someone hit the individual first (p = 0.63 vs. p = 0.04) or threatened to damage their property (p = 0.77 vs. p = 0.08) (Table 8).

Therefore, studies are needed to explore how nursing home staff members deal with these behaviours in care situations, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of everyday nursing practices and how they are managed.
