The "School without Violence" programme contributes to the behaviour change and reduction of violence - primarily by means of learning and accepting new knowledge and skills, by applying them in all life situations, both at school and at home.
Campbell, Nair, and Maimane (2007) and Campbell, Nair, Maimane, and Sibiya (2008), characterise an HIV/AIDS-competent community as a context in which local people work together to contribute to the challenges of promoting behaviour change, stigma reduction, the support of AIDS patients and carers, and the appropriate accessing and optimal use of existing sources of health and welfare support.
We aimed to assess the cost-effectiveness of a 20% price reduction on fruits and vegetables and a combined skills-based behaviour change and price reduction intervention.
These included an action plan on prevention that focused on behaviour change communication; harm reduction including needle/syringe provision; prevention of mother-to-child transmission; voluntary counselling and testing for HIV; blood transfusion safety; and sexually transmitted infection management.
With 12 weeks of social distancing the effect is relatively small even for the lowest R0 of 1.6 (25.6%, IQR = 21.7 – 28.7%) unless the proportion of the population involved (81%) and the magnitude of the behaviour change (69% reduction in contacts) is large (1.4%, IQR = 0.7 – 2.7%).
HIV incidence may peak naturally when HIV spreads in a previously uninfected population.[3] The timing and level of the peak will be related to dynamics of spread which may be mediated by behaviour change such as reductions in casual partnerships or increased condom use.[4] Few longitudinal studies of HIV infection exist from sub-Saharan Africa, so empirical estimates of incidence are scare.
HCT provides an avenue for education and promotion of behaviour change, resulting in a reduction in risk behaviours (5– 7).
It is difficult to know in advance how much adaptation of a trial-tested intervention or health system package will be necessary while still maintaining fidelity of the intervention and key elements which play a role in the pathways to behaviour change and ultimately mortality reduction.
