To the Editor: Re "As Final Debt Plan Is Released, Signs That the Fight Is Just Beginning" (news article, Dec. 2): I have been reading about the deficit commission since the chairmen shared their overview, looking for courage from our elected officials, only to be disappointed by the lack of political will on both sides of the aisle.
Since the beginning, news outlets have commented about the size of the spectacle: the cost of the broadcast, the price of a commercial ($85,000 per minute in 1967, about $6 million now), the number of home viewers (about 45 million in 1967, more than twice as many in the United States alone now), and so on.
