Among the evidence gathered by investigators, law enforcement officials say, is a statement from a friend of Mr. Johnson, a teenage girl who says she rebuffed a romantic overture by him in his bedroom less than two hours before he died.
The exhibition begins in a version of Deller's teen bedroom, less the guano-spattered cave favoured by most adolescents, and more an orderly display of youthful interests and preoccupations, with posters on the walls, things neatly entombed in his built-in wardrobe, and a film about joyriding playing on the portable TV beside his bed.
In White Plains, one-bedroom apartments will cost around $135 a day and two bedrooms less than $200.
As for the rentals, listings on Craigslist begin just over $2,000 a month for basic one-bedrooms — less for the occasional studio — though prices for nicer units are much higher.
Each bedroom had less than 70 square feet.
Some of these factors can be relatively simple to deal with on an individual level, for example using earplugs, wearing bed-socks, taking the TV, radio, computer, telephone and pets out of the bedroom, drinking less alcohol, exercising earlier, and going to bed earlier.
"Well, holy fuck," came the cry from the bedroom, and Less rushed in, thinking Robert had injured himself (he carried on a dangerous intrigue with the physical world, and chairs, tables, shoes, all came rushing into his path as if to an electromagnet) but finding him basset-faced, the phone in his lap.
"A lot of people think now that children play so many digital games and spend so much time in front of their screen, they've maybe become disconnected from other people," said Bui. "But people connect in different ways: they can communicate with a lot of people from their bedroom and less when they leave – but maybe that time, when you add it up, is the same amount of human interaction.
Her parents did not let her have a television in her bedroom, much less allow her to watch a racy HBO series.
