On the first exposure to ethanol vapor in 95% Flypub, all male flies became sedated within 24 min with a mean sedation time (MST) of approximately 16 min, whereas it took longer with 70% ethanol (MST ∼23 min; Figure 1).
When Cade diluted the uric acid by adding lithium, the guinea pigs fared better; when he injected them with lithium alone, they became sedated.
These dynamic courtship activities typically lasted for 5 to 10 min before the flies began loosing motor control and became sedated.
Following a brief period of quiescence, flies then exhibit a more sustained period of enhanced locomotor activity, the hyperactive phase, achieving peak speeds at 10 12 min. As flies continue to accumulate ethanol internally, they become progressively more uncoordinated, decrease overall locomotion, and eventually become sedated.
As internal ethanol concentration increases, flies become progressively more uncoordinated and eventually they become sedated.
In this group 1 horse did not become sedated and another horse was deeply sedated (score: 8).
Furthermore, the traces seem to track a subset of people who become sedated but retain high frequencies in their EEG, and therefore a high RE (particularly) or BIS®.
None of the healthy subjects or patients showed clinically significant changes in blood pressure, SpO2 levels, heart rate, respiratory rate or body temperature during the study period, and none became sedated or had any nausea or vomiting.
We found that the time needed for 50% of control flies to become sedated (ST50) was 13.6 minutes, whereas flies reared on food containing 5% ethanol had an ST50 of 18.2 minutes (Fig. 2B).
This means that 10 to 20 minutes after injection, the cattle will become sedated and will feel less pain during the procedure.
