This is of paramount importance because, especially considering the high complexity of the transcriptome disclosed by the ENCODE Project [ 5], the use of different methodological approaches enabling the qualitative and the quantitative assessment of the transcriptome complexity is presently highly needed.
Regulatory decisionmakers, guideline developers, or users of the evidence are likely to perceive the ease of use and ease of interpretation of quantitative approaches very differently because of different levels of methodological expertise or different perspectives.
