To investigate whether furfural tolerance is specific to SIZ1p, genes SIZ2, MMS21 and CST9 that encode for the other three E3 SUMO-protein ligases in yeast [ 29] were individually deleted but did not affect furfural tolerance of the cells.
The leaf proteomic study identified 38 protein spots associated with drought-tolerance in wild barley XZ5 (Fig. 1; Additional file 3: Figure S1, Additional file 4: Figure S2, Additional file 5: Figure S3; Tables 1, 2, and 3), which may be specific proteins with important roles in drought tolerance in XZ5.
