Conversely, deubiquitinases (DUBs) that selectively remove ubiquitin from substrates to promote their stability have been implicated in stabilizing oncoproteins, such as Mcl1.
Interestingly, elements related to each of these have been shown previously to have stabilizing effects for individual genes: a GA-rich element has been implicated in stabilizing the elastin mRNA [27], CA repeats bind to hnRNP L and confer resistance to decay [28] and CU-rich and pyrimidine-rich elements interact with HuR or αCP complexes to stabilize mRNAs [29], [30].
Notably, plastocyanin (cce_0590), the ferredoxin-NADPH oxidoreductase PetH (cce_0994), and the extrinsic cytochrome c-550 protein PsbV (cce_2955), which is implicated in stabilizing the manganese cluster of the oxygen evolving complex [23], are the proteins related to photosynthesis that are up-regulated during the light period (Table S4; Figure S2).
Characteristic features of KLKs are the invariant residues of the active-site catalytic triad His57, Asp102 and Ser195, as well as a conserved Gly193 (human chymotrypsin numbering system) which is implicated in stabilizing the oxyanion intermediate of the internal peptide bond during hydrolysis [6].
The mammalian proteins FCHO1 and FCHO2 are homologs of Syp1 and have been implicated in stabilizing nascent clathrin-coated pit structures (Henne et al. 2010; Cocucci et al. 2012).
Plk1 is implicated in stabilizing kinetochore microtubule attachments (Lénárt et al., 2007) and we confirmed that BI2536 treatment caused monopolar spindle formation with kinetochores detached from microtubules (Fig. 3B).
