Previous studies have shown that molecular relatedness between distinct diseases may be found when searching for direct relationships among gwas-genes [10], [11] and that the analysis of first-degree interactors may also lead to similar observations[1], [2].
It can be argued that more distant sequences will not be found when searching for such sequences in other species with the same cutoff value of 10-12.
In this article, we examine DNA losses, but do note that it is possible that loss of these same genes could also occur via methylation, altered microRNA regulation, and/or somatic mutation, although the last of these has yet to be found when searching current somatic mutation databases for RAD17/RAD50/RAP80.
