This testing raised awareness over minor bugs, which were then fixed and these fixes were contributed back to the trunk.
Although the platform is based on the open source Moodle, a project that CBTec is contributing back to, it has a much cleaner and more modern design in an attempt to avoid the over-engineering that can creep into any codebase with a large number of stakeholders.
Finally, the look and feel of the portal itself, which is based on a fork of GeoNetwork, was never contributed back to trunk.
He said: "Nothing is identical in this world, but there are serious similarities and the truth is that all these children that came – who are nearly 10,000 – we contributed back to the country … to take approximately 3,000 children into this country and help them will help us as well".
CBTec is also contributing back to Moodle's codebase.
He says the company doesn't plan to offer a commercial version or enterprise support — it's just contributing back to the open source community.
Over the last year, Makers Academy has coached over 250 people into junior developers who are all contributing back to the tech community in one way or another.
"I think it is very important that the most creative people coming out of our educational system... are able to contribute back to our society through jobs which attract them," he asserts, and a key factor in the equation is salaries.
