Given the number of NTDs recognised by the WHO which can give rise to acute or chronic skin presentations (table 1), the assessment of skin disease in sub-Saharan Africa should be afforded higher priority on research agendas, particularly due to the lack of programmatic data surrounding their distribution, severity and management.
