Ms. Ruhl's play was a commission, but "Wishful Drinking," which was brought to Mr. Taccone's attention by a local producer while Ms. Fisher was working on it in Los Angeles, was initially intended to be a special event.
"I think it just happens to be a special event where the entire country is able to see the same event at the same time," says Senior Research Support Associate Tim Brothers.
"Elementary is a good show, but it's week-in-week-out, story-of-the-week – it's there to do a job and it does it really, really well," says Stephenson.
