Perhaps this idea of self-as-community was what it meant to be a being in the world, any being; such a being being, after all, inevitably a being among other beings, a part of the beingness of all things.
The second argument for the not-being of the One depends explicitly on the Principle of Alien Causality: "the principle is not yet such as are the things of which it is a principle"; hence the principle of beings cannot itself be a being.
But a composite or non-simple being must have an external cause, and must therefore be a being by participation.
So in an alternative universe, there could (logically) be a being physically identical to me but with no experiences: my zombie-twin.
The point is that mental and physical development never stops, no matter how old you are, and development is one of the things that make it interesting to be a being.
This permanent and common something cannot itself be strictly a being because a being already is and does not become, and because a being "in act" cannot be an intrinsic part of a being possessing a unity of its own; it must therefore be a being "in potency," a potential principle, passive and indeterminate.
