The word 'bathos' is correct and usable in written English
It is a literary device used to intentionally evoke an abrupt drop from a lofty or serious tone to a more comical or foolish one. You can use it in a sentence after a grand statement or idea to bring down the reader's expectations. For example: "The man thought he was going to win the race and save the kingdom, but unfortunately the hero tripped and fell flat on his face--a classic case of bathos."
Villains unworthy of vilification can be found in everything from the Austin Powers comedies, where the insufficiently wicked plans of Dr Evil positively drip bathos, to Skyfall, where Javier Bardem essentially played a neglected son jealous of Bond's relationship with their surrogate mother, M.
