Deaths from cardiovascular disease decreased substantially in all groups over the four decades, but more so in percentage terms in the groups at the extremes of educational attainment (63% among tertiary educated men and 29% among basically educated men; fig 2).

The reductions were even larger among women (48% for basically educated v 72% for tertiary educated).
