In its most basic terms social capital refers to the social connections that people have [ 10] and it has been hypothesized that social capital impacts physical activity participation through enhanced communication [ 11].
However, the literature lacks a basic description of social capital in an international sample of men and women living with HIV.
These gaps in the literature include both the lack of a basic description of social capital, and a description of its health correlates, in a diverse sample of PLWH.
Based on the above mentioned theories and the basic formulation proposed in (Ferlander 2003), we believe that social network, support, and trust are the basic building blocks of social capital.
What we find in our data, compiled from only highly credible sources (FBI, DOJ, CDC, etc)., is that violence is directly and strongly correlated with socio-economic data on education, health, poverty, inequality, basic services, labor participation and social capital.
We identified five key ingredients required to sustain our partnership (see Figure 2) that may be applicable to research partnerships generally: 1. Social Capital: A basic definition of social capital is the shared understandings, values and links individuals and groups share that engender trust and collaboration.
In an essay on slum health [ 26], the authors have suggested to harness the existing resident structure and social capital for provision of basic services in slum dwellings.
The items were developed using basic sociological principles and central statements relating to social capital described by Coleman [ 45, 54], Putnam [ 55], and Fukuyama [ 56].
We basically followed Harpham's classification of social capital [ 17].
While the categorization of social capital also tends to differ among researchers, two of the most basic categories are collective social capital, referring to features of groups such as communities, and individual social capital, referring to the features of individuals, with each having its own methods of measurement [ 16].
