UNICEF is helping by providing the survivors with basic necessities, including hygiene kits, cooking sets, tents, tarpaulins, jerry cans and water bladders that provide some 5,000 litres of safe water.
The organization has provided family kits for more than 60,000 people; the kits include basic necessities such as tarpaulins, blankets and cooking utensils.
To date, UNICEF has provided the Pasig city government with family kits containing basic necessities such as water cans, blankets, mosquito nets, sleeping mats, to benefit families for at least three months.
UNICEF has also been distributing kits filled with basic necessities such as sleeping mats, bed sheets, washing powder, water purification tablets and towels.
Those affected are in dire need of humanitarian essentials such as shelter, food and drinking water, medical assistance, hygiene kits and other basic necessities.
The kits comprise of basic necessities that displaced women and girls require to maintain feminine hygiene, dignity and respect in their daily lives (e.g sanitary towels, underwear, basic clothing, soap) as well as other items aiming at reinforcing their protection (e.g. flashlight, whistle).
Health workers expressed a need to provide maama kits, which is a package of basic necessities for use during delivery.
As with her previous pregnancies, Annette purchased a Maama Kit for 20,000 shillings, about $5 dollars, containing the basic necessities for a clean birth: two plastic sheets, a bar of soap, two sets of gloves, a clamp or cord to tie infant's umbilical cord, a sterilized razor to cut the cord and a piece of clean cotton wool for the mother's care.
