UNFPA efforts have been directed at the elimination of all forms of violence against women, especially sexual gender based violence and fulfilling the reproductive health rights of women.
Working towards this end, women within Dalit castes have formed organisations such as the All India Dalit Women's Forum and the National Federation of Dalit Women and Dalit Solidarity, which focus on the gendered implications of caste based violence and oppression, such as the ways in which Dalit women suffer from urban poverty and displacement.
"We have recently launched a new Honour Based Violence and Forced Marriage Action Plan, which outlines the comprehensive steps we are taking to improve our performance in this area".
The Police Partner Coordination Group on Gender Based Violence and Child Abuse, chaired by the Police and comprised of development partners, NGO partners and relevant Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, are committed to supporting the Police to implement the Action Plan and continuing the fight to eliminate Gender Based Violence and all forms of violence against children.
Her tenure at the Home Office oversaw significant pressure on the police and Crown Prosecution Service to improve responses, new offences of revenge porn and coercive control introduced, more of a focus on "honour" based violence, and a welcome recognition of the links between different forms of abuse.
"Gender Based Violence and violence against children destroys the spirit of our women and children and limits their full potential to make meaningful contribution to society," said Dr Olivia Muchena, Minister of Women's Affairs, Gender and Community Development.
"We believe there should be no impunity for the sexual and gender based violence, and there must be arrests and punishment because that runs counter to peace".
Of particular concern is the fact that gender based violence and gender inequity have increasingly been cited as important determinants of a woman's risk of HIV infection.
These Desks are at the heart of the Tanzania Police Force's response to gender based violence and child abuse.
When fully functional, the FSVAC will be the primary body providing services to survivors of gender based violence and bringing perpetrators of violence based crimes to justice.
