Since mid-2003, morigorousous verbal autopsy interviews have been applied using a questionnaire based on a WHO-INDEPTH instrument [ 12, 13].
These analyses are based on reports from 14 INDEPTH sites, covering 14,198 deaths among WRA over 2,595,605 person-years observed.
In 2006, a predecessor of this set of papers was published, based on 38,000 verbal autopsies from 12 INDEPTH sites (1).
Cause of death data based on VA interviews were contributed by 14 INDEPTH HDSS sites in sub-Saharan Africa and eight sites in Asia, located as shown in Fig. 1.
