First, the base concept and target concept should be structurally aligned; that is, as similar as possible with just one "alignable difference" (Goldstone, 1994; Markman & Gentner, 1993a, 1993b; Medin, Goldstone, & Gentner, 1993).
Bigotry targeting difference can manifest just as easily based on sexuality as it can based on skin color.
Knowledge is based on forgetting.
Try predicting the temperature difference based on the volume difference.
And a basic appreciation for the unique perspective that is based on that difference.
Like the racist and the sexist, the ageist rejects an Other based on a perceived difference.
Republicans say their opposition is based on substantive differences.
Perhaps in response, the left has become balkanised into smaller groups, based on small differences.
