In this paper the swing-up problem for the Furuta pendulum is analyzed by comparing the results obtained by the conventional Astrom-Furuta strategy, based on a dimension 2 model, with a new strategy based on a dimension 3 control law using the symmetry of the configuration space of the system.
Because DAPC is based on a dimension reduction of the data using principal component analysis (PCA) followed by a linear discriminant analysis, the choice of the number of PCA axes to be retained at this stage needs to be evaluated.

The stimuli were divided into two categories based on a single dimension: the inside size; the other three dimensions were irrelevant (Figure 2A).
Suppose we are willing to plan a similarly designed two-group cross-sectional study using an IRT model and that the outcome of interest is, for instance, one of the aspects of quality of life based on a given dimension of a questionnaire.

In the Dimensional Change Card Sorting Task (DCCS), children are initially asked to sort cards by a single dimension (such as color), and are subsequently required to alter their strategy to sort cards based on a second dimension (such as shape).
The area of distance range model uses the entire dispersal curve, but is based on a single dimension of space and thus conceptually abstracted from the grid landscape.
Notably, the predictive power of our best meta-dimensional model was 73% which outperformed all of the other models conducted based on a single dimension of genomic data.
Some scholars choose to measure risk perception based on a single dimension, such as the intensity of residents' overall feeling (He and Zhai 2015), the degree of threat to family assets and personal security (Lindell and Hwang 2008; Calvello et al. 2016), or the future possibility of a hazard occurring (Butler and DeChano 2012).
