In the 2016 Angiosperm Phylogeny Group IV (APG IV) botanical classification system (see angiosperm), Caryophyllales occupies a basal position within the core eudicots.
Monophyly of P. stagnora and Helicosporidium sp. was strongly supported (BP = 100, BPP = 1.00); and they were separated from the other three taxa at the basal position.
