Cultivated accessions have exposed seeds and a high seed density per spike (iii), with a few basal branches and no aerial branches (iv).
We carried out multi-site voltage-sensitive dye imaging of membrane potential transients from thin basal branches of prefrontal cortical pyramidal neurons before and after application of channel blockers.
The basal branches may be duplicated or triplicated [4].
The basal branches of the cpDNA tree were congruent with those found in a previous study of the trnT-trnL intergenic spacer [9].
However, a consensus phylogeny for passerine birds does not yet exist, and there is much debate about the topology of the tree, especially at the basal branches.
The two trees analysed in detail (Fig. 3) show several basal branches that belong to outgroups that are revealed to be paraphyletic.
Firstly, haplogroup E-M2 (former E1b1a) and haplogroup E-M329 (former E1b1c) are now united by the mutations V38 and V100, reducing the number of E1b1 basal branches to two.
The C tree shows an initial deep split into four sister subclades, C1, C4, C5 and C7, each containing several independent basal branches, one within C1, at least three within C4, four within C5, and three within C7 (Figure S1).
Haplogroup E1b1 now contains two basal branches, E-V38 (E1b1andand E-M215 (E1b1b), with V38/V100 joining the two previously separated lineages E-M2 (former E1b1a) and E-M329 (former E1b1c).
We have not tested the effects of these phylogenetic incongruities in the basal branches of the trees on community assembly parameters, such as Net Relatedness Index and Nearest Taxon Index (NRI and N, respectively [4], [11], [21]).
The basal branches of the genetic diversification of human populations happened some 150,000 years ago, a much shorter time than the split between humans and chimpanzees (around 6.5 million years).
