The phrase "average response across" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when discussing the mean or typical response measured over a range of subjects or data points in a study or analysis.
Example: "The average response across all participants indicated a strong preference for the new product design."
Alternatives: "mean response throughout" or "typical response among".
Whereas the grand average response across trials provides an estimation of essential characteristics of a brain-evoked response, an estimation of the differences between trials for a particular type of stimulus can provide key insight about the brain dynamics and possible origins of the brain response.
