The average number of action potentials (APs) evoked by stimulation of between 600 and 900 pA in the HSV-G9a-injected group was greater than that in the HSV-GFP-injected group in large neurons, whereas the stimulation of ≥400 pA in the HSV-G9a-injected group was greater than that in the HSV-GFP-injected group in medium and small neurons (Fig. 7F).
When the receptive fields of polymodal C-fibers were exposed to a conditioning stimulus of S1P (1 µM, 5 min), the average number of action potentials in response to a standard heat stimulus was significantly augmented compared with the control response.
The average number of action potentials elicited by step-like voltage-deviations was estimated to be 6.8±6.0 APs/min (n = 7) in the presence of 10 µM choline plus 2 µM PNU-120596 and 24.5±18.0 APs/min (n = 10) in the presence of 10 µM choline plus 5 µM PNU-120596 (Table 1) – a statistically significant difference (p<0.025).

Note that the average number of state-action successors is very less than the number of states, so the proposed AVI algorithm (Algorithm 1) is efficient in this case.

The average number of electrodes recording action potential (spike) activity was only 6±1 per slice in the SMA mice, while in slices from control mice, the number of active electrodes/slice averaged 15±2 (Fig 1C).
