The phrase "average methylation level" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used in scientific or research contexts, particularly in genetics or epigenetics, to refer to the typical level of methylation in a given sample or population.
Example: "The study found that the average methylation level in cancerous tissues was significantly higher than in normal tissues."
Alternatives: "mean methylation level" or "typical methylation level".
