Only 30% of them failed the test, little worse than the American average.The fear of lost jobs is also exaggerated.
By contrast, today's average American fears that future generations will not live as well as past generations, and that a solid education and strong work ethic guarantee nothing.
"The liberal secularists who unfortunately control the Democratic Party from Washington to Tallahassee to Broward don't reflect the average God-fearing Democratic voter," Labriola said.
"Extremist nationalists have wielded considerable power, leveraging average peoples' irrational fear of Muslims for political gain," says Matthew Smith, executive director of human rights non-profit Fortify Rights.
The jury, he said, need only decide whether a "reasonable" person should have "foreseen" that his or her speech would place the average listener in fear.
Such ignorance also gives rise to increasingly widespread beliefs that Muslims are out to kill us and that average folk should fear Muslim "no-go zones," alleged neighborhoods in cities like Dearborn, Michigan, or Birmingham, England.
For the occupational exposure group, 'social contact', jobs were classified according to a previously used scheme in which occupations were classified by an occupational hygienist according to whether they had higher than average social contact (Fear et al, 1999b, 2005).
"Actually," he said, "I've got all the average middle-class fears".
