The specific evolution trend of the average length and diameter of the hydrothermal product (Fig. 2a b) determined the corresponding change of the average aspect ratio of the hydrothermal product with the droplet size of the NaOH solution (Fig. 2c).
The mean southerly aspects ranged from 226 229o (average aspect strength of 0.8), however the mean aspect of the neutral LMUs varied considerably because of the two neutral classes centered on 135o and 315o, with consequently a low average aspect strength of 0.05.

For prolate spheroids, the observed peak positions are reproduced by our simulations, assuming an average aspect ratio of the NPs of 1.5 and a slightly (by approximately 5%) increased matrix refractive index.
The mean aspects of the northerly LMUs were clustered around 45o (with an average aspect strength of 0.7, meaning that almost three-quarters of the pixels within these LMUs were oriented between 330o 120o), reflecting the 45o offset incorporated to capture the thermal inertia of southwest facing slopes (Table 1).
Sample S3 (e) shows the formation of nanorods with an average aspect ratio of around 4 nm.
The NRs have an average diameter of 10 nm and the average aspect ratio of 6.5, while the impurities are mainly quasi-spherical nanparticles with diameters ranging from 15 to 30 nm and cubic nanoparticles with an edge length of approximately 20 nm (Figure 1a).
TEM analysis revealed that they have an average diameter of about 8 nm, with an average aspect ratio of 25.
For this purpose, highly crystalline chitin nanowhiskers (CTNW) with spindle-like morphology and average aspect ratio of 24.9 were produced by acid hydrolysis of chitin.
