In order to test this idea, we compared the expression strength classification of 21 photoreceptor CREs (19 novel CREs along with Rho-CRE and Nrl-CRE as controls) with their mRNA levels (using the average array value of the gene in question as a surrogate for mRNA levels).
Additionally, comparison of average array intensity for each of the test samples is dramatically reduced when compared with arrays hybridized with product from MCF7 intact RNAs.
A similar trend of higher correlations among up-regulated genes was observed by Beckman et al. (%R[14}%), who proposed that this effect may be due to the increased variability observed in low-intensity array spots, i.e. down-regulated genes. However, in the current study, no trend was apparent in the effects of average array spot intensity on correlation of data (Fig. 1b).
An average array fluorescein intensity of >15,000 RFU/pixel was observed when printing on slides 4 weeks old or less, however a nearly 50% reduction in retention capacity is observed when printing on poly-L-lysine coating greater than 10 weeks old.
However, the majority of vendor-supplied coated slides, did not meet or exceed our established average array element intensity value of 5,000 fluorescein RFU/pixel under the printing and post-processing methods optimized for our in-house coated slides.
In the Asian population male individuals had on average arrays consisting of 5.7 units compared to 6.9 units in female individuals, however, the total size variation was very small (middle 90% range of data: 4-8 unins in males vs. 4-10 unins in females).
And the research meshes neatly with other work indicating that overconfidence is a common; studies have found, for example, that the vast majority of people rate themselves as "above average" on a wide array of abilities -- though such an abundance of talent would be impossible in statistical terms.
Very few results for a moving average process of an array of i.i.d.i.d
