The phrase "average absolute correlation" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used in statistical or analytical contexts when discussing the mean of absolute correlation values between variables.
Example: "The average absolute correlation between the two datasets was calculated to assess their relationship."
Alternatives: "mean absolute correlation" or "typical absolute correlation".
We then computed a downstream analysis which asks the question "which TF had the highest average absolute correlation to all the 'target' genes present in a given module?" In the event of a TF being a member of a module, it would be deemed a 'target' in this context.
