Because a certified reference material with PET properties was not available, the ICP-MS method was validated measuring a low-density polyethylene (LDPE, ERM-EC680k) with a certified Sb content of 10.1 ± 1.6 mg kg−1.
If these summary measures were not available, but mean ICP readings per patient were presented, as read with different probes, we calculated the mean ICP differences and standard deviations (Table 1).

We will not consider standard ICP-MS analysis or laser ablation based analysis of such samples and analytes – for these cases we want to draw the reader's attention to the magnitude of excellent reviews and textbooks available within the scientific ICP-MS community [5,20,35,87].
