Previous studies have identified an urgent need to improve the availability of skilled attendance at delivery in East Africa [ 13, 14, 17], and in this semi-urban community the levels of hospital attendance for delivery that we observed were promising (63%).
The program aimed to leverage widely available private obstetricians to improve financial and geographic availability of skilled birth attendance and CEmOC to poor women of Gujarat (18, 19).
