A spokesperson for the pair said: "The former management of Autonomy announces today they will file claims against HP for loss and damage caused by false and negligent statements made against them by HP on 20 November 2012 and in HP's subsequent smear campaign".
H.P.'s deal to acquire Autonomy was announced in the summer of 2011, when Léo Apotheker was leading the technology giant.
On 27 August, Nissan became the first major automaker to assign a timetable to its autonomy programme, announcing it would bring commercially viable autonomous vehicles to market by 2020.
H.P.'s value has declined by an even higher percentage since the Autonomy deal was announced, to $25 billion from over $61 billion.
The Autonomy deal was announced as part of a larger restructuring by H.P. With earnings and margins under pressure, the company said in August that it would explore strategic options for its personal computer business, including a potential spinoff.
But by August 2011, when its takeover by HP was announced, Autonomy was also among the most shorted stocks on the FTSE 100, with traders betting that its years of rapid growth could not be sustained.
Cambridge, UK-based infrastructure software company Autonomy this morning announced that it is acquiring a number of assets of Iron Mountain's digital division – including the latter's archiving, e-discovery and online backup business units – for $380 million in cash.
