A Scopus ID # is the unique author identifier from Elsevier's Scopus database, an abstract and citation database of the peer-reviewed biomedical literature, and can be found here.
The future may also see data 'DOIs' (the German Science Foundation's 'Publication and Citation of Scientific Primary Data' project, for instance), and unique identifiers for authors (for instance, Elsevier's Scopus Author Identifier or the Dutch Digital Author Identification project).
