Hollywood is merely the most glamorous industry that puts new entrants — whether they're in the mailroom, picking up dry cleaning for a studio head or waiting on tables between open-call auditions — through a lottery system.
As the crowds outside dispersed yesterday, Mr. Goffin addressed hundreds of those auditioning through a megaphone inside a ballroom at the Bank of New York, a makeshift waiting area across the street from the hotel.
