A criterion-based clinical audit (CBCA) is a specific type of chart abstraction that can be effectuated by non-medically qualified audit assistants.

Falls data will be collected by two methods: case note audit by research assistants and the hospital falls reporting system.
A research assistant audited the cooperating supermarkets (n = 31) and observed the availability and price of selected products.
The research assistants who audit notes are not informed of the methodology of the trial including when sites enter the intervention arm of the trial, and they conduct audits in a different location to where the education is delivered.
The audit revealed that while assistants in advanced level positions mostly performed tasks equivalent to full (standard) scope positions, only a third of their time was spent performing more complex advanced level tasks.
Falls data are prospectively collected by the research assistant on an audit basis at all eight sites throughout the trial period of 50 weeks.
The numbers in the audits "sound overwhelming," said Sandy Jo MacArthur, assistant police chief.
At each school, two research assistants completed the audit instrument independently.
While the Certificate IV Allied Health Assistance was seen as the most relevant qualification for assistants within Queensland publically funded health services, audit results suggested it was insufficient for assistants working at an advanced scope of practice level.
