The phrase "atypical preparation" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a method or process of preparing something that is not standard or usual.
Example: "The chef's atypical preparation of the dish surprised the diners, as it included unexpected ingredients and techniques."
Alternatives: "unconventional preparation" or "nonstandard preparation".
