Should Mr McCain become president, the world will see an American with different views from those it has sadly learned to expect from Republicans recently.Those atypical positions, and his willingness to team up with Democrats in the Senate, may have earned Mr McCain the support of many of the independent voters who will be crucial to Republican chances in the general election.
