In order to confirm the presence or absence of S. pneumoniae in samples with plyNCR PCR products of atypical band size or >1 band, PCR for psaA was performed as described [19], [24].
Atypical banding patterns and isolates that differ from the standard genotype from a particular host are also represented.
†Because of atypical banding patterns, a clear definition of an isolate as type I vs. type IIa could not be obtained.
It should be noted that in some female carriers of a premutation, skewed X inactivation can result in an atypical banding pattern (2.8 kb+expansion and 5.2 kb or 2.8 kb and 5.2 kb+expansion).
Additionally, atypical banding patterns – ie, those that are not consistent with the aforementioned variants – may be observed, and can suggest the presence of a rare (normal or deficiency-causing) variant, which would be missed by the previously mentioned targeted DNA analysis for S and Z mutations.
A posterolateral auxiliary portal (3 cm posterior and 3 cm superior to the greater trochanter) may be used in the presence of variation of sciatic nerve entrapment (atypical fibrous bands, hamstring tendons or fibrous scar bands extending from the trochanteric bursa to the sciatic nerve).
The atypical CnA band was not observed in other organs including mouse brain (Fig. 1A), liver, heart, kidney and lung (data not shown).
Blue Oyster Cult's hit suicide ballad, "(Don't Fear) the Reaper," was thoroughly atypical for a band that always made it difficult to guess how far its tongue was in its cheek.
But while it's atypical for the band, I actually have a fondness for the tune, which has a great melody.
Because PK-resistant bands of atypical PrPres and PrPSc overlap (Fig. 3b), discrimination between the two forms required staining with 3F4 (detects only PrPSc) and SAF-84 (stains both PrPSc and atypical PrPres).
