Thanks to a seven-day travel diary collected for 707 individuals in the city of Ghent Belgiumm) in 2008, this study goes further by studying this variability according to various time periods within the week and by analysing interpersonal and intrapersonal variations according to the varying attributes of activity-travel patterns.
Note that beyond the perspective of a day-to-day variability study, the search for repetitive activity-travel behaviour, through attributes of activities and/or trips, is indeed another research issue [7], which is beyond the scope of this study.
The relationships between attributes of activities and the continuation of these activities were explored in other studies.
Diffusion of innovation theory can help explain how the continuation of activities is related to the attributes of activities as innovations.
For the first time in health systems research, the attributes of activities in a health programme implemented in a low or middle income country were described using diffusion of innovations theories; and a relationship was established between the level of continuation of activities (sustainability) and these attributes.
The results indicated that differences in terms of sustainability varied in function of the type of activities and the attributes of these activities (i.e. observability, complexity, triability, and compatibility).
Although we tend to think of these activities as less risky for an adult, this creates a conundrum of defining risk (or dangerousness) based not on the objective attributes of the activity but on the person engaging in them.
