Thus, it turns out that in order to increase the lifetime of WSNs, the most important design goal is to attain power conservation at all layers of the protocol stack of sensor nodes, which encompass sensing, data processing and wireless communication subsystems.
Further, the local-scale focus of environmental water science will need to expand to a larger, basin-scale perspective that considers habitat connectivity and species movements that are critical components in attaining freshwater conservation.
