Quantitation by flame atomic absorption spectrometry yields results in agreement with those arising from aggressive total decomposition using conventional microwave-assisted (MW) digestions.
The effect of chloroform, dichloromethane and nitrobenzene as organic solvents over the metal chlorides extraction was investigated at 25 ± 0.1 °C by using flame atomic absorption and the result is that the ability of extraction in solvents as follows: C6H5NO2 > CHCl3 > CH2Cl2 and the compositions of the extracted species have been determined.
We can therefore assume that both methods (ICP-MS and furnace atomic absorption spectrometry) give comparable results.
An overview of current analytical techniques (like ICP-MS, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, atomic absorption spectroscopy) and the results of total concentrations and speciation information for several elements, such as Al, As, Ca, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Hg, Pb, Se and Zn, in CSF were highlighted and summarized in that review [ 18].
Table 2 also shows the results of atomic absorption analysis for copper content.
The AdSV results compared favourably with those obtained by using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) and with the results of samples from the International Plant-Analytical Exchange (Iprogrammeamme of Wageningen University (The Netherlands).
Therefore, the proposed assay provides a very good alternative for the portable quantification of As (III) in water as corroborated by the analysis of natural groundwater samples from Swiss mountains, which showed a very good agreement with the results obtained by atomic absorption spectroscopy.
