As a feasibility study, especially in a patient population that has been the focus of very few randomized controlled trials, no primary endpoint was prespecified; rather, a range of efficacy measures was identified and evaluated at three months in comparison to baseline.
In an observational study, Stewart et al. showed that measurement of HBL over one year, using DXR, correlated with erosive changes in patients with early RA at four years follow-up [ 29] and Hoff et al. also showed that patients with hand BMD loss at one year had more radiographic damage at five and ten years in comparison with patients without HBL [ 30].
Our primary outcome was the change in disease activity score in 28 joints including erythrocyte sedimentation rate measures (DAS28ESR) between the drug start date and six months of treatment (in our study, a positive variation means a decrease in disease activity at six months in comparison with baseline visit) [ 36].
Figure 4 shows that the RMSE of the BME-LUR in space (at all stations) was closest to zero in comparison with BME-kriging and the LUR.
