Further analysis of Affymetrix data revealed higher levels of IGFBP5 in the OM AT than in the SQ AT of non-pregnant women, with no correlation with BMI (Fig. 3b).
The lower layer is not seen at stations beyond the Sq focus.
At stations outside the Sq current loop, BMT in the north and CNB in the south the impulse in ΔH was negative.
On both of these days ΔH showed a midday peak at equatorial and low latitude stations and reversing to midday minimum at stations poleward from the Sq focus region e.g. at BMT, in the north and at ASP and CNB in the south.
This clearly showed that the SFE is similar to the EEJ current at equatorial station and to the Sq current at low, middle and high latitudes.
Migration from locally-modified ionospheric conductivities over a prolonged time to the appearance of DNT (which normally occurs at other locations under the Sq system) leads to a sudden shift of the Sq peak towards latter local times.
Although very few studies have been carried out at the edge of the Sq current loop near higher magnetic latitudes (Campbell and Schiffmacher, 1985, 1988; Carafella et al., 1998; Detrick and Lanzerotti, 2001; Sillanpaa et al., 2004).
In Panel (a), the daily maximum of the Sq(H) at Addis Ababa appears between 1030 to 1130 LT, while at other low latitude stations the maximum appears around noon.
Therefore, it is important to examine the time of the Sq peak at lower latitudes.
The two dayside orbits have been selected since those show clear signatures of the Sq currents at the Southern Hemisphere.
Several justifications have been proposed for the semiannual response of the Sq strength at low latitudes (Tarpley, 1973; Stening, 1991).
