Ex-smokers were those participants who reported past smoking at phase 3 or current or ex-smoking at previous phases.
We assessed this by adjusting, at each follow-up period, for the risk factors/markers at the current phase plus at the previous phase (two phases capturing an exposure period of approximately five years).
In addition, there was no evidence of associations with grip strength in the follow-up phases adjusting for its measure at a previous phase.
We can calculate an amount of ( {I_{0,3}}^-{I}_{0,3}^ ) by measuring I 0,3 + and recalling ( {I}_{0,3}^ ) which was stored at C1 from the previous phase I.
Here, the subtraction is performed by the current of M2 which can recall ( {I}_{0,3}^ ), stored at C1 during the previous phase I, as shown in Fig. 2b.
Obesity at one previous measurement phase was associated with a 2.43-hour/week (95% CI=0.07, 4.78) increase in TV viewing; obesity at three previous phases was associated with a 7.42-hour/week (95%CI=2.77, 12.46) increase in TV-viewing hours/week at Phase 5. Sitting time was not associated with obesity cross-sectionally or prospectively.
Phases 2, 3 and 4 each used individual, self-administered questionnaires that were mailed between 1987 and 1989, 1993 and 1995, and 1995 and 1998, respectively, to all cohort members who were presumed alive at the end of the previous phase.
Key features of the reforms include building on the research networks that were beginning to emerge at the end of the previous phase, and especially on the UK Clinical Research Collaboration created by the DH in 2004 in partnership with other research funders, industry, regulatory bodies, Royal Colleges, patient groups and academia [ 81].
Briefly, the tube containing the organic phase and a small portion of aqueous phase (TRIzol®-chloroform fractions) from previous phase separation was centrifuged at 12,000 g for 15 min at 4°C, and the remaining aqueous phase supernatant was removed and discarded.
