We identified nine genes (twelve transcripts, including one hypothetical gene) that were induced at mid stage in HR but not in LR (predictors of early pathology, Figure 4A), and seven genes (nine transcripts) that were induced in LR but not in HR (early predictors of recovery/clearance, Figure 4B).
Induced transcription of these genes at mid stage of CMS in HR was likely a result of the initial rise in lymphocyte infiltration to the infected tissue as reflected from histopathology (this was the first stage with score 2, representing pathology above normal background levels, score 0/1).
At mid stage 9, although the Dad StC are around half the size of WT StC, the StC overexpressing concomitantly Dad and Nact display a wider apical surface than those of the Dad StC (Fig. 5E,F), indicating that Nact expression can rescue partially the phenotypes associated with impaired TGFβ signalling (p<0.005).
