A firestorm is the presence of at least one localized region of clustered, relatively narrow peaks of amplification, with each cluster being confined to a single chromosome arm [ 30].
This consists of the simplex pattern (broad segments of duplication and deletion usually entire chromosomes), the sawtooth pattern (narrow segments of duplication and deletion more or less affecting all chromosomes) and the firestorm pattern (resembling the simplex type but with at least one localized region of amplification within a single chromosome).
Also, from the 86 E.coli metabolic pathways defined in KEGG, 59 showed at least one enzyme localized and the number of localized enzymes scaled linearly with pathway length (see Figure 1B, R = 0.98).
In order to obtain an estimate of the over-representation of localized enzymes in the first and last positions of the 529 EFPs, we computed for a given EFP length, the ratio of the number of EFPs having the first or the last enzyme localized to the total number of same-length EFPs having at least one enzyme localized.
For the randomly selected lamin A targets Acpp, Sp100, Olfr681, and Olfr1471 located on chromosomes 9, 1, 7, and 19, respectively, at least one allele localized to the periphery in 55, 45, 55, and 30%%, respectively, of cells compared to 17 and 9 % for the non-targets Eif2b and Fanca (Fig. 2b).

For SNP-based markers, 105 (set 1) and 7 (set 2) candidate genes were genotyped in three mapping populations: 56 (set 1) and 4 (set 2) were localized on at least one of the six parental maps (Additional file 1 and Additional file 13).
The distribution of the investigated CNE, suggests a good coverage of the rainbow trout genome, as we were able to localize at least one pair of CNE on every chromosome except for Om-26 (see Additional file 9 – Table 1).
