This session is organized by the AAS Working Group on Astroinformatics and Astrostatistics (WGAA) and CHASC.
These research questions will be framed within the context of a new emerging astronomy subdiscipline, Astroinformatics.
This session originates from the AAS Working Group on Astroinformatics and Astrostatistics and the CHASC International Center for Astrostatistics.
This special session will be followed by a panel discussion on Astroinformatics and Astrostatistics in the age of Big Data.
We will close the session with general topics of interest to AstroStatistics and AstroInformatics and short communication from the Working Group.
In addition a discussion on connections between the American Statistical Association Astrostatistics Interest Group and the AAS Working Group on Astroinformatics and Astrostatistics will take place.
Dr. Feigelson is Professor of Astronomy & Astrophysics and of Statistics, Associate Director of the Center for Astrostatistics, lead author of the 2012 text 'Modern Statistical Methods for Astronomy with R Applications', founding chair of the IAU Working Group in Astrostatistics & Astroinformatics, and co-editor of the Astrostatistics & Astroinformatics Portal (http://asaip.psu.edu).
Aneta Siemiginowska (CfA, astro), G. Jogesh Babu (Penn State, stats), Sujit Ghosh (NCSU, stats, SAMSI liaison) and SAMSI ASTRO in collaboration with the members of the Steering Committee of the AAS Working Group on Astroinformatics & Astrostatistics (AAS WGAASC).
Goodman recently served as Chair of the Astronomy Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and on the National Academy's Board on Research Data and Information, and she currently serves on the both the IAU and AAS Working Groups on Astroinformatics and Astrostatistics.
