More than 100 metres (330 ft) long, the walls of the canal are decorated with tiled panels depicting seascapes and associated scenes.
We hypothesized that scene maintenance would not be sufficient to explain activations associated with scene construction, and thus scene maintenance would result in significantly less activation of the hippocampus, if any.

For example, in two recent studies, activity in the perirhinal cortex during encoding predicted subsequent recollection of object features (Staresina and Davachi, 2008) and of objects associated with scenes but not recollection of the scenes (Awipi and Davachi, 2008).
The Stimulus-Control (S-C) Association phase then associated these scenes with different attentional control states by probabilistically biasing specific scenes to mostly precede either congruent or incongruent trials in a Stroop task.
