Resistance to scientific platonism and the associated indispensability argument has been mounted on several fronts (e.g., Field 1980, Sober 1993, Maddy 1997, ch. II.6, Paseau 2007).
But, according to some, it is endangered and restrictions are needed on its trade.Meetings of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) are traditionally associated with arguments about what is known, somewhat cynically, as charismatic megafauna elephants, rhinos, tigers and so on.
However in practice it often desirable to associate an Argument with more than one Candidate, for instance an Argument in favour of one Candidate may be an Argument against another.

A third respect in which the two-dimensionalist argument associated with Table 3 commits to more than the Kripkean argument from the subsection on Mind (§3.4) in this entry is that the two-dimensionalist argument concludes that pain is not even constituted by c-fiber firing.
The foregoing paragraphs show that the standard two-dimensionalist argument associated with Table 3 is more ambitious, in some respects, than the Kripkean argument from the subsection on Mind (§3.4) of this entry.

The notion of private language argument is typically associated with the later argument by Wittgenstein in Philosophical Investigations to the effect that a private language is logically impossible for an individual to use consistently and for others to understand.
